Decorating A Farmhouse Style Kitchen
Whether you have an old converted barn that is now a luxurious country house, or you live in a brand new build modern house, there are plenty of ways to decorate your kitchen in the farm house style. Here are some ideas to get you started.
First, consider the basics such as your floors, walls, windows, etc. For instance, is there laminate flooring in the kitchen? You may want to consider replacing that with solid wood flooring, such as one of our lovely discount oak flooring products. Unfinished flooring can look particularly stunning in a farmhouse style kitchen. Medium to darker tones of wood are considered more traditional.
If you plan to paint the walls, you should probably chose a fairly neutral tone, such as cream or beige. But there’s nothing to stop you using a pale yellow or even something a little more exotic like teal, should you have a particular colour scheme in mind. Use your own judgement, but remember that more traditional colours will probably best suit a farmhouse style kitchen.
You can also do a stencil design around the top of your walls as a border. This is very in keeping with a countryside or farmhouse style.
Next you’ll want to gather some ornaments, wall shelves, or other things you can decorate with. Consider things like gingham curtains, pictures of farm animals, or fabric heart or animal shaped ornaments. Think of what is known as the “shabby chic style.” Browse through some decorating magazines for more ideas.
