18 X 230 X 70 MM

Merbau Wood blocks flooring are traditionally laid in a herringbone design with a 2-block border running around the perimeter of the room. Can be laid over existing concrete screeds or plywood sub floors. Once installed this floor needs to be sanded smooth and finshed 3 coats of a lacquered finish.

Merbau woodblock flooring refers to flooring made from the wood of the Merbau tree (scientifically known as Intsia spp.). Merbau is a hardwood species native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. It is highly valued for its natural durability, strength, and distinctive appearance, making it a popular choice for flooring.

Here are some key characteristics and features of Merbau woodblock flooring:

  1. Durability: Merbau woodblock is known for its exceptional durability and resistance to wear and tear. It is a hardwood with high-density properties, making it suitable for high-traffic areas and commercial applications.

  2. Rich Color: Merbau woodblock exhibits a rich reddish-brown to deep brown color with hints of yellow. Its coloration can vary, adding depth and warmth to any space. Over time, the wood may develop a beautiful patina, further enhancing its visual appeal.

  3. Grain Patterns: Merbau woodblock typically features an interlocked or wavy grain pattern, often with a coarse and sometimes wavy texture. This unique grain pattern adds character and visual interest to the flooring, creating a distinctive look.

  4. Natural Resistance: Merbau woodblock has natural resistance to decay, termites, and other pests, making it a suitable choice for areas where these issues may be a concern. Its natural oils also contribute to its resistance to moisture and rot.

  5. Hardness: Merbau Woodblock is considered a hard hardwood, ranking high on the Janka hardness scale. It has excellent resistance to denting and indentation, making it suitable for areas prone to heavy furniture or foot traffic.

  6. Versatility: Merbau woodblock flooring is versatile and can be used in various interior design styles, from traditional to contemporary. Its rich color and distinct grain patterns can complement a range of aesthetics.

  7. Sustainable Sourcing: It's important to ensure that Merbau wood is responsibly sourced from sustainably managed forests. Look for certifications such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure the wood is obtained through ethical and environmentally friendly practices.

When considering Merbau woodblock flooring, it's advisable to consult with flooring experts or professionals for specific recommendations on installation, maintenance, and suitability for your particular space. They can provide guidance on factors such as subfloor preparation, installation methods, and proper finishing to ensure the best results.
